Robin Smith (Heartlands Banjo & Guitar Company) has gained a solid gold reputation as the maker of fine instruments.
His workmanship is the choice of famous pickers such as Bill Evans (the Bill Evans Signature banjo recently released). Jim Mills has used Robin's neck-making expertise in converting vintage tenor TB Gibsons into 5-string banjos.
Custom-made in USA for a resident of Virginia who requested the bird and flower state emblems of Virginia. This masterpiece bluegrass banjo has highly figured Curly Maple neck. Curly Maple resonator is double-bound with abalone and white binding. Radius Rosewood fingerboard has intricate Dogwood-flower inlays of pearl and abalone. Bound headstock is inlaid with Red Cardinals and Dogwood-flower motifs. New Waverly ivoroid geared tuners. Presto tailpiece. One-piece flange. Highly engraved tension hoop and armrest complete the look. The heart of the Virginia's sound is Robin Smith's 16-hole pre-war replica tonering; the ring with the sting!
