This instrument (#6264) dated Dec 2006 was crafted in the USA workshop of banjo magician Mr. Geoff Stelling. Unstained Walnut resonator and neck with white-black-white binding on neck and resonator. Highly figured wood, pearl inlays and Schaller tuners. Tony Pass "Lost Timbre" birch block-construction rim. The metal parts are deeply chrome plated. According to Mr. Stelling, six to eight weeks are spent on each of his banjo creations.

If you love banjos you’ll know all about the careful selection of Australian timbers, craftsmanship, and unique inlays that are the Eucalypt hallmark.  Serial number 15 is a Custom with Woodhill Bell tone ring and charming Australian theme resonator by Anne Simpson.  “One Horse Town” is a little unusual in that the fingerboard is slightly wider – 44mm @ 5th fret (as opposed to 41mm) and 48mm at 12th fret (as opposed to 44mm standard.)  Dual co-ordinator rods, moon bridge, Price tailpiece, slotted diamonds fretboard inlays, and spikes at 7th, 8th ,9th and 10th frets.  3-piece neck with contrasting centre stripe.  Lots of warm wood, and copper-look two-piece flange and tension hoop.  A fat, gutsy tone with classy looks and collectability.

PRUCHA LEGEND – HAND CRAFTED - 2005 – PRE-LOVED - Sold

Jaroslav Prucha learned his craft while working for Geoff Stelling and is now in his 26th year of professional lutherie.   Mr Prucha (pronounced prooka) is highly respected for construction of acoustic instruments and high quality parts.  Some of the biggest name makers in US now use Prucha parts.  His banjos are reknowned for their choice timbers and superb craftsmanship.  The detailed finish of Prucha banjos is becoming a benchmark throughout the industry.

There are many reasons to buy a handmade Prucha banjo.  Above all is the sound.  Pickers trying out a Prucha always remark on the great tone - even when comparing with other major name banjos.  They also compliment the playability.  With Prucha, the closer you look, the closer you listen, the more you like them.

WASHBURN B23 MYSTIC DL - c1970 - PRE-LOVED Sold

Hand-signed by Nagashimi of Japan.   Typical Mystic slim neck front to back with wreaths design feels really good under the hand.  No fret or fingerboard wear (tiny split in the fingerboard from the oversize spike).  Dual co-ordinator rods.  5/8” ply rim, cast tone ring.  Tube and plate flange.  Frosted Remo Weatherskin head.  Kirshner tailpiece.  Spike at 7th fret. 

Reasonable condition, the bad news for collectors - previous owner has hand-varnished the back of the neck and parts of the head stock.  Possible to strip and respray at a later stage.  For now, all it needs is a keen picker to play it in.  Mystics in any kind of playable condition are becoming rare.
